Dallas, Texas-For many years there has existed the stereotype that ancient Neanderthal man was dumb, and that our ancient ancestors were slow witted and ignorant.
Now there are several reexaminations of the different Stone Age technologies that existed in hand flint tools. These show that the ability and effectiveness of Stone Age tools was not less than comparative homo sapien type tools.
This shows that ancient Neanderthal man did not go extinct because of a lack of intelligence, intellect or tools.
The new study was written by Metin I. Eren, a graduate student in archeology at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, and also a Southern Methodist University student in Dallas, Texas.
Mr. Eren and his team are publishing their findings in the August 26th issue of the Journal of Human Evolution.
The new study is very important as it shows different flint tool technology used by the Neanderthal’s was not inferior but actually served the man of that time period very well.
It also helps how history and people view the history and ancient Neanderthal man.
Different does not mean inferior, and it is reshaping how some scientific circles view the historical records of that time period.
“This is an important study in that it takes traditional Neanderthal man out of the dark box they have traditionally been viewed in,” said Dr. Jeffrey Laitman.
Dr. Laitman is the director of Anatomy at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City.
